Pedestrian succumbs to injuries following Ontario crash

On April 29, a 31-year-old woman died from the injuries she suffered in a crash on April 20 in Leslieville. According to the report, the woman was walking her dogs on Dundas Street East when that accident occurred.

Police say the fatal auto-pedestrian accident took place between Logan and Carlaw avenues shortly after 2 p.m. as a car, which was heading east on Dundas Street East, suddenly veered off the roadway and crashed into the pedestrian while it was trying to avoid a rear-end collision with a stopped vehicle. Following the first crash, the driver allegedly smashed into a truck.

First responders to the scene transported the pedestrian to St. Michael’s Hospital where she was treated for severe head trauma. According to the report, she was placed on life support until April 29.

Authorities stated that the male motorist involved in the fatal accident was driving about 50 km/h at the time of the impact and was originally charged under the Criminal Code with Dangerous Operation. However, since the victim has died, his charges will likely be changed to Dangerous Operation Causing Death at the time of his court appearance.

Whenever a person has been struck by a car and passes away from the severe injuries he or she suffered in the accident, the surviving family may be able to recoup damages via their insurance company or from the liable party as outlined in the Family Law Act. The compensation may cover the loss of their household income, burial and funeral expenses and other out-of-pocket costs relating to the death. Grieving family members might also be reimbursed for travel costs and accommodation expenses if they had to travel in order to visit the dying family member who was hospitalised preceding his or her death. Sometimes surviving family members may be compensated for noneconomic damages such as loss of companionship.
