Ontario auto-pedestrian accident injures 3

Two women were hospitalized July 8 after a truck struck them as they were unloading a parked van in Barrhaven. Several people present at the scene of the auto-pedestrian accident helped one of the women after she became trapped under the truck. The 34-year-old woman who was driving the business truck that struck the pedestrians suffered an arm injury and was also taken to hospital in stable condition.

The accident occurred in shortly after 11 a.m. The victims were unloading equipment from a Penske van parked on Calderwood Way when a pickup truck struck the van and the two women. The truck dragged the women for about three metres following the crash.

One of the victims, a 34-year-old woman, was stuck underneath the truck when her leg became trapped. Several bystanders cooperated to lift the van enough to free her leg. Paramedics took her to hospital for treatment of head and leg injuries. She was listed in serious condition. The other pedestrian, a 30-year-old woman, was also hospitalized in serious condition with head and rib injuries.

Pedestrian accident victims who suffer serious injuries may be left to cope with chronic pain or other complications for the rest of their lives. These complications may be disabling, leaving victims unable to return to their normal routines at work or at home. People who suffer injuries because of a driver’s negligence may be able to seek compensation from the driver as well as the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident. Personal injury lawyers could guide victims through the process of filing claims after an accident.
